IDC: the 2018Q1 tablet market shrank by 13%

IDC recently released data on the global tablet market for the first quarter of 2018. The data showed that the shipments of tablets fell 11.7 percent year-on-year, which is also the continuous decline in the sales volume of tablets since Q4 last year. Still, apple and HUAWEI's M5 line of tablets, which just released new ipads for education, have bucked the trend in terms of sales, revenue and market share.

Among them, apple iPad sold 19.1 million units in 2018, with a market share of 28.8 percent, which not only maintained its leading position in years, but also had a market share of nearly 30 percent, the highest in four years. Perhaps it's because of the new education version of Q1, or the momentum of the iPad 2017, that apple's number one iPad line is making people optimistic about the future of the tablet market at a time when the overall tablet market is shrinking.

In addition, Q1 samsung shipped 5.3 million tablets, ranking second in global market share at 16.7 percent, despite a drop from a year ago. As a big domestic player, huawei and lenovo, which dominate the top three, have seen their shipments grow to varying degrees. Among them, huawei, which recently launched the M5/Pro series of tablets, has increased by 13% year-on-year. Huawei has been able to counter the trend of growth in the shrinking tablet market and is quite powerful.

It's worth mentioning that the IDC data this time excludes 2-in-1 detachable hybrid PCS, which are not included in the list, such as the iPad Pro
